Violence in Games

Hi Guys

I was just going through a few lectures slides (the unit is called Computer Games Studies ) about violence in games and I was just curious about what you guys here thought. We always get people saying it's bad in some way but I'm curious as to what the gamers (who play the games the most) think about the violence in games today?

Re: Violence in Games

well its no worse than what ya see on the nightly news.with the game its not even real violence.so i dont have a problem with it.i think it comes down to the individual if they are going to commit violence,or not.

Re: Violence in Games

Yeah as Pharoah says it no bad than what you see in the news, it is no worse than what you see in films aswell. But the reason people probably see it as bad is due to the fact you are controlling the violence.

With the realism of the body physics in GTAIV actually has me avoiding killing people, (well, inocent people anyway) the first time i shot a person in the game and they dropped to the floor with, what i would imagine is startling realism, made me feel really bad.

Re: Violence in Games

It's indeed a fairly violent game, if you choose to make it so, but I was never tempted to kill innocent people in the previous GTA games and I don't in this one (unless I'm running away from the cops) But I know for certain that should a need arise in real life for me to run away from the cops by killing an innocent person, I'd go in quietly. Personally I don't believe violence in games makes any impact on the gamers as some reports would have you believe.

Re: Violence in Games

Seconded as im a massive FPS fan and have played a lot of FPS games from the original doom all the way to Crysis and it hasnt affected me at all.

IMHO youd have to be a pretty screwed up person to start with to get so influenced by violence in games that you start to copy it IRL.

Re: Violence in Games

Just like pharoah said, the violence in games is just as bad as what you'd see on the news. Actually, things here in San Antonio are FAR worse than things are in Liberty City!
