Quake Wars - Questions About Ranks/Ranking Up!

I've been playing QW for a couple of days now and ingame when I hit TAB it says I'm a Corporal & shows the corresponding badge next to my name but when I click "Persistant Stats" it says I'm a conscript (as shown in the pic below).

Also, I wondered HOW you actually rank up. Is it the same as in Battlefield 2 where you need a certain amount of total XP in order to gain a rank?

And finally, I unlocked the Grenade Launcher on a map but then when the map changed, I tried to select the Grenade Launcher again but it wasn't there. Then around 15 mins later it said once again I had unlocked the grenade launcher. Why was this?

You need to play on a rank servers and earn medals, the beginning medic medal you need to collect 600xp after that you get the medal. Advanced user's guide can be found in your C:\Program Files\id Software\Enemy Territory - QUAKE Wars\Docs\mp server

When the round is over all players xp resets, so it gives all newcomers a chance in the game.
