I'm hoping the Alky Project gets a stable version of DX10 for XP before crysis comes out because I plan on staying with XP until it stops working

Hi,

Sorry to have to break the bad news, but DirectX 10 is only compatible with Windows Vista. XP will only run up to DirectX 9.0c. If you want to use DirectX 10, you need to go to Vista.

The Alky Project is a group of coders who take exclusive releases and engineer them to work on other OS here is the release for the preliminary DX10

Wednesday, April 18, 2007
Finally making use of this blog I created almost a year ago. What a busy year it's turned out to be, from the inception of the Alky Project to the creation of Falling Leaf Systems and the Sapling Program.

As a fitting start to this blog, I'm proud to release a preview of our Alky compatibility libraries for Microsoft DirectX 10 enabled games. These libraries allow the use of DirectX 10 games on platforms other than Windows Vista, and increase hardware compatibility even on Vista, by compiling Geometry Shaders down to native machine code for execution where hardware isn't capable of running it. No longer will you have to upgrade your OS and video card(s) to play the latest games.

The current preview allows you to run a number of examples from the Microsoft DirectX SDK on Windows XP. They're not the greatest thing since sliced bread, but we want to whet your appetite. We hope to release builds in the coming months progressing from demos to fully functional games. We also plan to post on this blog from time to time with screenshots and videos of what's to come.

The preview build is available here. Inside this zip is a README.TXT file with complete instructions on where to install the files (don't worry, we'll have an installer in the near future) and how to get and run the examples from the SDK.

We at Falling Leaf welcome your feedback, and we're committed to giving you the best high-end gaming experience possible, regardless of OS.

Enjoy,
- Cody Brocious
Lead Alky Engineer

Re: What DX10 games are you looking forward to?

I read that earlier today, shortly after replying to your post. The thing is, they're not actually making DX10 for XP.

They're making a DX10 adaption to allow DX10-only games play on a DX9 system. The game won't actually be using DX10.

Yes, but Crysis already has DX 9.0c compatibility so I don't see a problem.
I didn't know Starcraft 2 was DX 10??? Anybody able to confirm for me?

Anywho, yep, you guessed it. CRYSIS!

Re: What DX10 games are you looking forward to?

Pretty sure Starcraft 2 is not dx10 thier theory is to continue making the game as playable to as many people as possible. So the game is not groundbreaking when it comes to graphics by any means.

I tested world in conflict for vivendi and although multiplayer gameplay i found bit boring the single player was excellent if your c&c fan get it. The graphics are simply outstanding, I find myself losing because I was to busy looking at all the detail instead of controling my units.

How about Age of Conan, game is dx10 and is without a doubt best looking mmorpg coming out. Should be fun since its meant for a mature audience I look forward to it more and more each day.

What about games that support duel and quad core? As it stands supreme commander only game i know of that does and really makes the game much more enjoyable considering i've got q6600 and are tired of playing games and watching just one core working at nearly 100%

Of course there's going to be!!! Don't even suggest otherwise!!!

lol. Seriously though, I don't know. I sure hope they do make one, as a DX10 Elder Scrolls game would be awesome, and apart from anything else the Elder Scrolls series is brilliant.

Starcraft Two will have both directx9 and directx10 support. They announced that at blizzcon, IIRC.
