For hours and hours of gameplay, look at RPG's like Oblivion. You can play for a whole month and still not finish the game, and it's enjoyable the whole way through.

Some FPS's I like:
Far Cry
FEAR
Doom 3
Half-Life 2
Each has a long and interesting single player campaign, and good multiplayer.

If you're an RTS kind of person, have a look at the Battle for Middle Earth games. I'm not usually an RTS guy, but I thoroughly enjoyed the BFME games.

Those are the games I'd recommend. Other people will have other preferences.

I second Indoril about "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" as well as "TESIII: Morrowind". I've never played Morrowind, but I do have Oblivion and it will immerse you for HOURS upon HOURS!

Morrowind is my favourite game of all time. It is about 4 years old now, though. If you're after games with *super good* graphics, Morrowind isn't what you're after. If you don't mind about graphics, definitely check it out - like Oblivion, it will keep you coming back for hours and hours and hours.

...and hours and hours and hours and hours...

In addition to the seemingly limitless gameplay of both Morrowind and Oblivion, both have a massive mod base so there is potential for practically an infinite amout of gameplay time.
Both games also have the game editor either shipped with it (Morrowind) or as a free download (Oblivion), meaning you can even create your own mods quite easily .

7900GS will be very good with oblivion. I have a 7950GT and can not get ultra high, but a 7900GS will be able to acheive Meduim to high settings.

It doesn't have any online play at all and the whole game is a story practically. You partake in missions and join factions and guilds and such. Well over 150 hours of game play. There is a central mission or plot and tons of other side missions.

I second gamerman's comment - the 7900GS will do very well with Oblivion. I tested one in my system just the other day, and was very impressed - it performed almost as well as a 7800GTX, which is saying something. I'd say it would handle High settings, but only up to about 1024 x 768.

When gamerman says there's well over 150 hours of gameplay, he's just talking about the main quest and faction quests. You're also able to just go out and explore, hunt animals, loot dungeons, and things like that. It's a fantastic game.

Oblivion was ok, although I am a gaming agrophobe. I constantly seek games that will seal me in and give me a limited paths, or I daresay, linear games.

40mins in, I was looking at the vast, expansive and lush grounds, and got to one of the towns and went crazy. I counldn't take the sheer breadth and scope of things to do. Next day, i returned the copy to my Insomniac thing I call a friend.

NOTHING BEATS CS:S.
BF games suck.

Oh...it is...
It is insanely fun when you make up rules in HL2: Deathmatch like, "You may only use grenades and the Gravity Gun in this round".
Next thing you know barrels are exploding everywhere and cars are rolling down the roads and players are constantly getting hit in the face with crates.

i did not enjoy Oblivion at all and i wish i got 150 hours out of it :( graphics was pretty story was crap most of the voice overs was not very good decent characters though and i HATED how every place i discovered was tailored for my level no finding a dungeon and getting your *** handed to you and making a note of its location for later I'd give it a 5/10

If your not worried about graphics take a look at Morrowind and it's expansions. It basically fixes everything bad you just noted about Oblivion, except it doesn't really have voice overs, you just read the text. Still an excellent game though.
