HDR: Oblivion vs Half-Life 2 Episode One
Which game do you think has better HDR lighting? From what I've seen, Oblivion does it better, but I think it's mostly because Episode One doesn't really have any prettiness for the light to shine on...
What do you think?

I would have to go with Oblivion as it gives the HDR Lighting some justice, and some very pretty justice at that. It almost made me cry when I saw it being used.

Halflife 2 didn't have true HDR, nor did the source engine. It's notched-up bloom.
This survey isn't quite accurate. Last edited by Atypicality; 02-27-2007 at 04:30 AM. |

It's still using the same version of source that Lost Coast was built on. It's still "HDR" but it's not "True" HDR. That's why you can have earlier nVidia cards running AA in HL2, but not in Oblivion. 8800's are the only nVidia card run true HDR along with AA as of yet.

You know, I'd have to agree with you there. Oblivion's lighting is great, but not all the time.
Some places, the lighting is incredible, though in others I find it too... 'glowy'. |

I don't think games look much like real life, even with all their pretty shaders, HDR, AA, and AF turned up.
MY WORLD IS NOT BROWN WITH INTENSE GLOW.

![]() anywho, i did hl2 because i think its the best looking engine i've seen. in real life everything isn't glossy like in many games, eg. doom3 and quake4.

Summer outside at noon is suicide, yo. The closest thing I see the the HDR in games is when the sun reflects off of car windshields and the lobby tile and into my eyes.
