Working for the fun in a game
Do you feel you have to work in games to have fun? For example, you have to work to unlock features, find hidden areas. Does this take away from the fun? Should games include a mode where you don't have to do all that? Would it work better for younger people?

eh, game designers usually make the game fun, despite not having all the goodies. Like ebackhus the first time is just to beat it...to say I beat it. The only thing I don't like is when the game designers put in a % completed, but there are always like 8 things you can't find no matter how long you look so it never gets above like 94% that is so frustrating!

Having these features makes playing the game multiple times fun. The first time you play you just want to beat it. If there is nothing else to "work" for why play it again. But I do hate it when you just can't get those last few percents!

If a game isn't fun, then why play it?
I beleive that you should have fun within the game, no matter what you are doing. For example, I love to go around picking up ingredients in Oblivion, but then, I acidentally stumble upon an old ruined fort, naturally I wander inside only to find a vampire hideout, of course I contract porphyric haemophila (vampirism), but then I realise I have the Ingredients to make a "cure disease" potion. All the while I didn't care about leveling up, or getting better armour. I was having fun and still doing interesting things which furthered my position within the game. |

I don't mind putting a little effort in to have fun. Most games are structured that way and it works both as a learning exercise and to help you keep having fun - even RTS games are boring and basic at first with only a handful of units - you don't get the cool stuff till you're quite a way through the game, but its fun to unlock more buildings and units as time goes on.
