Battlefield 2

I started a thread about this game a while back, when I played it on my brothers computer. I now own it myself, as does my roomate and we are looking for a few good soldiers to join us in a squad.

I'm decent, my roomate is getting better, and we need a team to help us win consistently. Is anyone else willing to join me?

Ok...this game is starting to piss me off. I'm in a server having a blast, flying a jet and shooting things down, bombing things, generally having a good time dominating the air.

Then while strafing an enemy helicopter, one missle misses the enemy and hits a friendly chopper shooting it down. I team killed 3 people, they all punish me despite it being an accident and I get kicked and banned from the server...What kind of crap is that?! it's not my fault the missles suck in this game!

I've never played the game sorry. I hear its good, but lately I just haven't had the time.

Can you pention to get back in the server?

It is only a temporary ban, and is absolutely neccessary since teamkilling runs rampant...However, probably 90% of teamkills are accidents so the fact that it lets you punish or forgive is a god send. I can get back in to the server now so all is good, but it was the end of my fun for that night

(3 punishes = ban for 5 min.)

The game is totally awesome! You need to have a fairly good computer to run it well, but if yours can handle it, it is so much fun. Probably the best part about it, is that the game keeps a running stat report, accuracy, kill/death ratio and ranks you in comparison to everyone else who plays. There are websites which used to keep updated stats, but don't anymore. You can see me back a month or so ago HERE

What's the learning curve like? If I'm good at say halo will I be able to reach average level at this with in a relatively short time?

yea...the learning curve isn't too steep, its mainly just run around and kill things and you can join squads or create squads or command, well all kinds of things.

Well the game WAS good...with the new 1.2 patch it is nearly impossible to fly because all missles are insanely accurate and deadly (and air vehicles now have 1/2 health). I haven't had a good chance to play, but from the videos I've seen the rockets will do complete 180's and blow up a plane traveling at full speed.

I will post further reviews upon playing the patched version some.

I hate when they screw up trying to "make the game better"

They did this with Halo 2, they got rid of a perfectly good combo and just substituted it with anther more annoying one.

Yea, ground combat is still fun, and in fact, I seem to do more damage now than I used to. However, by taking out most of the air support (cobra helicopters, etc...) this game just isn't what it used to be.

Well they very quickly released another patch for bf2 version 1.21

This evens out things alot! Air support is once again a viable option, and on top of that, FPS has been dramatically improved.

I see all my free time being sucked in by this game.

I'll probably start playing in college, as they have a server hosted at OSU, so I get blazing local connection speeds.

Of course, it means I have to go through that whole fustrating "man I suck at this" phase again, like I did for ET before I got really good at it.

Well when you start playing, let me know and I'll take you for the ride of your life in an attack chopper. The last guy that rode in my chopper went 30-5...I had a measley 13-5 record.

Yea, on a side note, they have totally fixed this game. It runs better, the guns are evened out significantly, and air support is once again fun (but not totally devastating). I'm still a little sad they took out dolphin diving*, but I'll get over it.

*dolphin diving is when you jump and lay down in the air, so it looks like you are diving, but back in the original version you were still 100% accurate even while jumping and laying down.
