Problem Installing Any Game

When I put in a new game to install nothing happens. I will open up the game file and try to autorun the installation and nothing happens. This is a new problem and I dont have an installation disc for my dvd/cd drive to reinstall it. I can play already installed games and movies but just cant install new games. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Problem Installing Any Game

Can you see the contents of any of your discs in Windows Explorer? Test with CDs and DVDs, retail and burned. If you have more than one CD/DVD drive, try both.

Combo drives use 2 lasers, one for CDs and one for DVDs, so if you can see the contents of CDs but not DVDs then the DVD laser might be faulty or need to be cleaned.

Have you installed or uninstalled any CD burning software recently? This can sometimes cause a registry problem, which can easily be fixed if necessary.

Have you tested your discs on another computer to see if they are recognised? Are they scratched or dirty?

Re: Problem Installing Any Game

I can play DVD games that are already installed on my computer, but when I try to install a new game autorun doesnt work and when I click on it manually a little hour glass appears next to my mouse arrow for a moment then nothing happens.

The last thing I installed was cod5 a couple weeks ago .

Ive been able to install the games on other computers.

I then used a portable DVD on the troubled machine and I had the same problem. I hooked the same portable DVD to another machine and it worked fine.

Are you logged into Windows with full admin rights, or are you on a guest account with restricted installation and autorun abilities?

Re: Problem Installing Any Game

Have you tried copying the setup file to the hard drive to see if it can run from there?

Re: Problem Installing Any Game

Some games have an additional .exe file that includes the name "setup." But if the games you are trying to install don't have that additional file, then it would be the executable file normally used to run the game.
