Re: civilisation 111

Hi, welcome to TSF

Does your computer meet the game's minimum requirements?

Please post your full system specs, especially the graphics card details (make/model, graphics memory, AGP or PCIE, etc)

Do you have the latest device drivers, chipset drivers and DirectX installed?

Is the game's file name (Civilization3.exe) listed in the Task Manager after you try to start it? (Ctrl-Alt-Del, click the Processes tab and scroll down)

Re: civilisation 111

If you don't know what graphics card you have, it's possible that your computer doesn't meet the game's requirements.

Go to Start > Run > dxdiag > Display tab and post back with all the details listed in the Device and Drivers sections.

Also, run the 2 DirectX tests. Any problems listed in the Notes box?

Re: civilisation 111

The minimum graphics device recommended for Civ3 is "NVIDIA GeForce2 GTS/Pro/Ti, DirectX 8.0a-compatible video card (must be able to display 1024x768 16bit)", so it's not a very demanding game at all.

Your onboard Intel graphics has enough memory, is DX8/9-capable and can display 1024x768. It doesn't support hardware accelerated vertex shaders, but as it's such an old game, this doesn't matter.

Reinstall DirectX and the chipset/graphics drivers, then reboot. After Windows has finished loading, go to Start > Run > dxdiag > Display tab, click the Enable buttons to turn on the acceleration, then run the 2 tests. Any problems listed in the Notes box after the tests finish?
