DOW II Steam Install

Good Afternoon,

I updated my system with a second HD a little while back and decided to move all my games to a dedicated partition on the second drive.

I got a little carried away and deleted my steam games (DOWII and TW: Empire) from the server (dont ask).

A couple of questions...

1) Does anyone know how large the steam files are for DOW II?
Ive been downloading for what seems ages and still there is no end. To date Ive chewed though 2549mb and it still seems to what to d/l more.

2) Ive been downloading over last couple of nights while Im asleep. When d/l from steam, is it an accummulative down load which picks up again from where I left off or does it what to start from the beginning again (please say it aint so!!!).

Any comments appreciated

Hi sethy666.

You'll be looking at roughly 5GB to download DOW2.

Also, it is possible to start and stop (as far as I am aware, I have done it many times myself).

Keep in mind that even after you have downloaded and installed there will be another few hundred MB download of updates for the game.

Re: DOW II Steam Install

Thanks Tiber Septim,

I appreciate the reply. I thought I would be looking at @ 6GB judging from the cracked versions floating around on the net. Not that I condone that behaviour

Im glad to hear that its an accumulative download otherwise I would be a sobbing mess. At 0700hrs this morning, I was up to 67% after running again all night. Hopefully It will be finished by the time I get home.

Then I have the happy task of re-installing TW: Empire... oh joy

Mental note to self... Dont do it again.

Thanks again

I don't envy you.
I actually bought an external HD so I could back up all my Steam files. Takes to long to burn them all to discs.

Re: DOW II Steam Install

Now THATS something I would be interested in doing... considering my propensity to nuke large files

How do you go about backing them up? I did notice a back-up option on the steam options

Re: DOW II Steam Install

It's pretty easy. Open up Steam and go to the 'My Games' tab. Then right click on the game and select 'Backup game files'.
You can either save the file to a hard drive or burn it to a disc.
Then when you want to install the game you just run the backed up installer.
Saves downloading 5GB+ files.

Re: DOW II Steam Install

Thats seems easy enough, thanks for that.

The download completed at 1900 hrs last night... since the d/l was +5gb and I exceeded my d/l limit, my ISP had cut my d/l speed to 64 from 254... that was nice of them

I now have to wait until my next bill period to get my speed back up again. Ive also upped my plan to allow 12gb d/l without incurring extra costs or speed penalties. Gotta love Bigpond.

Any ideas about TW: Empire file size? Im not looking forward to spending another 3 days of continuous d/ling...

Thanks again for your help, its very much appreciated.

Re: DOW II Steam Install

No problem.
I just checked and it is saying that it will require 15GB of space to create a backup.
So, even with compression you are looking at around 12GB+.
Maybe next month...
