Sims 2 opening the program problem

Hey im new to this so really dont know what to say, all i can tell you is that every time i try and open the sims 2 all it does is open the first white loading screen and then closes again. I know its definitely not my computer that has the problem because i have a top of the line computer. Im thinking that its because i have Windows Vista 64 bit. and ive read that you can download a patch but every time i do that it says that The Sims 2 is Up to date. So im not sure what to do! If i could get an answer as soon as possible thatd be great! :]

hmm, my computer even speeds up like its tries to run it, but then gradually slows down! :( Ive also tried running it as an Admin, Also running it through the different compatibility thing still nothing
