Use Xbox controller for NES?
This might be a dumb idea, but I have an old xbox controller that my dog chewed the cord off of, and I'd like to try and convert it to use it on my old NES. Anybody know how I might be able to accomplish this?

Are you nuts? Like come on you should not do this. One is because they are made by two different companies and another is that you might make your system get blown up. So if I were you I would just throw away that chewed up XBOX control because it is useless.

its possible... though you'd have to unscrew the controler (not a biggie, but eh..) you'd need some soldering skills aswell.. what you really need is to find out what wires are for what buttons on the controler, disconnect the excess, then for the NES, find out what wires on the port are for what, then see if you can match them up... of course this is all just theory on my behalf but i think it should work.. <.<

That sounds like a pretty good theory to me. But you know unless you have made either one of these controlers then you should not be messing with them. But if you did and you knew exactly what you are doing then heck a little tinkering would never hurt. But anyway my opinon as well as most everyone else is the controlers were made for specific systems. They are not compatiable even if you did some tinkering. Like if you made a system controler for a new system you make that controler for that specific system not for any other one. You don't want someone tinkering around with it and making it work with some other system. If someone did make it work with some other system you would sue them or whatever for stealing your design of controler would you not. I am sure microsoft would do the same thing well anyway this is if they would ever find out. As long as you wouldn't make them and sell them. But I am sure you should now understand why you should not make that XBOX controler a NESXBOX controler. That name does not even sound right anyway.

The chip inside would need to be reprogrammed and the voltages altered. You'd also lose use of 8 buttons and the analog control.

Yes man I am sure that will work. Especially when there is no drivers for the controler and also since that is the fact the computer will not detect it. The main reason is because it is not made for the computer.

Wow I dont mean to be a jerk but, YOU KNOW NOTHING. There are drivers for the controller in fact I am using them right now to play sonic heros. So if you dont know if something exists or not try asking. Yes I can see that you can do that. I knew that you could. But do you not even realize what you are doing. Let's just talk to microsoft and see what they think about this controler mod to work on the pc. You know they don't make xbox pc controlers for no reason. They do that to keep people from vandalizing their controlers for xboxs and modifiying them to do something totally different.

Uhm, you do know what a weeaboo is, right?
Anyway, if you want to hack and slash your controllers that's totally up to you. Just keep in mind that one miswired area could blow the works.

If only it were always that nice. People make dumb mistakes all the time. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Well I did contact microsoft about this. They are saying you could be subject to prosecution if you do, do this. I believe this is because of patents and copyright laws and such. Also microsoft told me it is not really a good idea to even try such an attempt to do such a thing to the XBox controllers. They believe it will cause something to go wrong. They said the same thing I did. Just go and buy a XBox controler made specifically for the computer. Ohh and here is your word weeaboo http://www.urbandictionary.com/defin...o&defid=952612 Also have you not ever heard of the saying better safe than sorry. And also don't say something unless you are entirelly sure you know what you mean when you say that something. I am sure this will solve the issue even though cwhummel may not be here for the longest time to look at these answers we have given him/her. Considering he might not have subscribed to this post and lost it. Besides that they only have 48 posts so they might not yet have the hang of things yet.

If I had spares of both I might try it, but I just can't bring myself to fudge with a working NES.

You don't seem very friendly...I don't want to start yet another arguement on this board...but the person who made the thread is just trying to get some help...is this such a bad thing? There's no need to falsify information just so that you can prove a point is there?

Not to be mean or anything, but that is complete and total crap. I'd be amused to see a copy of this email. Sounds almost like those mattress tags that people keep on for fear of prosecution because they misinterpret them. There's no point in disputing this mod's success, because I've seen it done before.
