European PS2
Hi everybody....... I am brand new here and this site looks very interesting and usefull.
Hope somebody can help me. My girlfried just gave me the new PS2 for my birthday. The problem is that it's an European PS2, and I am now temporary working the the United States. I have take the PS2 with me but after connecting it to my american TV yesterday, I discovered that I can see just B/W screen, and that a big part of the image is being cut from the screen. I think this is an RGA cable problem, caused but the PAL and NTSC way of reading games ? Am I correct ? If yes, does anybody has a lead to help me out here ? Do you think that if I buy an american RGA cable I can fix my problem ? Thank you very much. POBOY |

If the PS2 outputs to PAL then you'll need a PAL->NTSC convertor. Cables won't be able to fix it.

Either that or a TV which supports PAL input - I know a lot of european TV's these days support both PAL and NTSC, so it may well be the case over in the US also.

thanks guys for these infos. Maybe you can help me with something else.
I found in the internet some converter which are pretty cheap. I am gonna buy one of those but whoever is selling them always referes to PAL from the UK. I am from Italy, and pretty much sure the PAL system is exactly the same as the English one but....... do you confirm ? Thanks |

Far as I know, there are different PAL systems out there but all should be compatible. In Europe, the only place that doesn't use PAL is France (using the old SECAM format) so with an Italian system you should be fine with a UK converter.
-EDIT You could always send a quick email to the seller and confirm it, he should know. Even if it doesn't work, you said it's quite cheap so you haven't really lost out on much.
