Question My Memory Cards Won't Go Into the Slot

Hello,

My Memory Cards won't go into the first slot of my PS2's Memory Card slots. I tried multiple different memory cards, but they just don't go in. They go into the second slot fine.

This is a problem for me, as some games only detect the first slot, not the second.

It's like some invisible block that's stopping it from getting in all the way. I checked inside by lifting the slot cover all the way, but I don't see any obvious damage or anything peculiar.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Andrew

Hi,

Whatever you do, don't force it too much or it will never work. Some helpful suggestions and you may have tried this, but I have no way of knowing how much you have worked inside of a case and how much you have not. So, if this is redundant, then forget I said it.

First of all, it may have something to do with the little clips that fit on the chip as it goes into the slot. Therefore, carefully check those little side clips to make sure there is not an extra piece of plastic left in one of them.

Second, when you go to put the chip in, put those little clips at about a 45 degree angle but do not try to snap them in. Some put them almost clear down and that makes it hard to snap the card in (if not impossible) unless it is a rather loose socket. Put them as far as is natural as they are set with the chip and no more or no less.

Now, while gently pushing down (get that gently) put fingers on each end of the chip and start rocking back and forth, one side, then the other, and continue while pushing down on each end as you rock it. the key here is to insert the chip on one end first WITHOUT pushing it hard enough to force one side down too much at the expense of the other. So, SLIGHT rocking is the word here, but with pressure pushing down. If it starts, you can feel it, so then do the same to the other side as soon as it starts to go down. Keep it even as it goes down, so then the rocking motion is not necessary. Some times that will make it snap down in. Good Luck!
