Problems playing borderlands online

I have a ps3 slim 120. I had problems with it downloading the gt5 prologue update( always gets about 5 percent ) then the error download message comes up. I have a netgear wgn3300 wireless router. I heard about the porting issue and called netgear, paid 36$ to help me and am pretty sure they did nothing cause still had the same issue after. I was running wireless but yesterday I ran a hardline to the ps3 and it did increase the Internet speed and psnetwork login. I have the upnp disabled on the router and ps3 and media disabled on the ps3, but now when I try to play borderlands online it frezzes when checking for groups or won't connect me to the server. Any help would be appreciated!

Are you sure you don't have a Netgear WNDR3300 router?

Go to this page to find out how to forward ports for PSN.

Re: Problems playing borderlands online

One last thing, I read both links ( porting and static ip ) so I need to setup a static ip for both my computers then ps3? Would that affect my iPhones from being able to connect to the wi- fi or do I need a st-ip for them too

Re: Problems playing borderlands online

Your phones can still connect to the cellular network (3G, 3.5G) or to a neighbour's Wi-Fi.

Even though it says you need a static IP I don't think you need one, just enter your regular one.

Re: Problems playing borderlands online

Ok I setup static ip's for my two computers and my ps3. Computers wer actually faster connecting online now. But on the dmz for the router it asks for a ip address, I currently have the ps3 one on it but should it be another one? Ps3 seems to have no change after setuping up.

Try disabling the DMZ, see if that makes a difference.

Re: Problems playing borderlands online

I did That and nothing. When I setup everything on the ps3 and ran the test the playstation network kept timing out. I can connect to it but it takes awhile.

Re: Problems playing borderlands online

With NAT (firewall on routers), the same ports can only be open to one network computer. This means that the ports you opened can only be enabled for the PS3's IP address.
