Help me get best possible 360 connection.
Ok I have an Xbox 360 and I would like to get the best possible connection for Xbox LIVE from my setup. I am going to start by telling you the problems I have followed by my network setup.
When I use Xbox LIVE, my connection can be very good at some times and very bad at others. I have a lot of problems connecting to select individuals when they host a party chat or game (even though I have an open NAT and they do too), but can connect to others. When I connect to a party, it takes the longest time and I am frequently being disconnected and reconnected to the party. When I play a multiplayer game (such as one of Halo 3) I can have a perfect "green" bar connection and then have a "red" dot connection the next second. When I host, the connection can be very good or very bad. None of the problems above happened before our area received a recent loss of power, which caused our modem to got to crap. We then received a brand new Siemens Gigaset SE567 to replace it. This is now my current setup. We have DSL provided by Frontier. My xbox is connected through a pair of Netgear HDX101 powerline HD ethernet adaptors. One is plugged in close to my xbox by an ethernet cable, the other is plugged in close to our laptop (which does not need a wired connection, we use it wirelessly) and is connected to the back of our OTHER router, a Wireless Linksys WRT54G. The Linksys then has another ethernet cable that is plugged into another one of its ports and is connected into one of the ports in the Siemens router. The Siemens router then has another wire that is plugged into its DSL port and is connected to the jack in our wall (through one of those little box thingies that is recommended to be plugged into every phone jack). I have opened all the ports recommended on my Linksys router for my xbox and I have been sure that the ip address for the xbox matches the ip address for the ports i opened. What could be wrong? None of the problems above happened before we had to lose our modem. Thanks for the help. |

Re: Help me get best possible 360 connection.
Hello Mike and welcome to TSF
In order to achieve the best possible connection you need to do three things. 1. Ensure your xbox is connected with the router that is directly connected to the dsl modem. The more you pass the connection down from router to router the more the connection may be degraded. You can purchase a 100ft ethernet cord for $10 at ebay which includes shipping. 2. Ensure no one is connected to the internet while you are playing since your connection is routed to several locations, this may be difficult to do since that means you have to disable the internet connection on your computers because even if it seems idle, windows likes to start downloading updates or another program is trying to download an update. 3. By default, DSL isn't the best connection for games. A cable connection provides a decent connection speed. As for this step, if you can try upgrading for a few more bucks a month.

Re: Help me get best possible 360 connection.
Hello Mike B, i also played alot of Halo 3 (Skill 50 with 1200 EXP) and i also encountered a lot of these problems myself.
The best possible set-up for Halo 3 is : - Cable. - Download above 13MB and above 5MB Upload. - Reset your router - Erase your Xbox 360 cache (This will delete your host record and create a new one, if you have an good connection, you will get host more often.) - Search ''Good connection'' on all times. Also like Steve said. Modem > Router > Xbox |
