My System

Confused Connect to PS3 Network via Mobile Broadband

Hi guys,

Here's the lowdown on this situation;

My brother has mobile broadband with o2 which works fine with his Advent Netbook which runs Xp. Now what we're trying to accomplish is connecting his ps3 through an ethernet cable using the netbook as a router between the mobile broadband and the ps3 itself in order to access the PSN which i know for a fact this can be done, its just the means to do so is escaping me.

Here's what we've already tried;
-setting a static IP address on the ps3 which could be something like(can't remember off by hand) IP Address - 82.201.135.49 ; Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.255 ; Default Gateway 82.201.135.48 ; DNS Server Primary and Secondary were the same except the last digits which were something like xxx.xxx.xxx.200 and xxx.xxx.xxx.201. Exactly the same as the laptops settings were in ipconfig except the ip address was 82.201.135.48

- Using what someone called open DNS again something like
Primary DNS:208.67.222.222
Secondary DNS: 208.67.220.220

-Tried creating a new home network on the net connections page to allow internet to be used through the netbook

Any questions ask because this probably isn't the most clear explanation but remember all he wants to do is access the PSN. He doesn't have normal broadband or anything. So......help lol

Cheers Guys

Re: Connect to PS3 Network via Mobile Broadband

Well firstly, I would assume you have a cross-over cat-5 (ethernet) cable hooked from the laptop to the ps3 which is the only way the ps3 can get an internet connection from your laptop. If that is true, then follow the steps below.

First thing you need to do is configure your mobile broadband device to share a connection to your local area connection. Now disable your mobile broadband device and your local area connection.
Usually you go to network sharing and right click for properties of your mobile broadband. Click on the sharing table and check the boxes neccessary, you may see a selection of which port to have a sharing for. Make sure to select local area connection and accept all changes.
Now, activate both connections.
I've never personally worked on or used the ps3 so I'm disadvantaged to help you through the user interface of this. But you need to set your ps3 network set up to automatically ip the connection.
