[SOLVED] Pokemon Crystal GBC "EV" points

Okay! i was goin through old stuff and found a gameboy and pokemon crystal.
im 18, so this is sad.. but i started playing and actually got into it lol (dont judge , just help) i wanted to make the pokemon stronger. i saw that the max stats of my feraligatr at lvl 100, were lower than the highest possible stats a feraligator could have at 100. so i am gonna breed a new one, aswell as a new one of the other pokemon i have.. and re-level the lot to 100 to try and get those stats at the best they could be.
I read about "EV" (effort value) points, which are apparently extra stat points awarded for fighting special types of pokemon. i tried to understand the formulae of how these points are gained, reading over and over again .. but it went over the top of my head like a fighter jet.

i'd be greatfull if someone could simplify..majorly to the point where an 8 year old could get it

also if you could answer some sub questions
-what should be trained on to get the points in each stat (examples) ?
-how do you know your getting them?/got them?
-will i miss out if i start aiming for them at lv 50 + ?
-can i just get the bonus stats by buying lots of proteins, carbs, iron etc. ?
-how many is there roughly?
-just anything else you can tell me bout them.

Man you're a noob (joking). No shame in playing Pokemon, because as far as I know, the games were so fun. But to the problem. This isn't really "tech" related, but we're here to help, so I'll help you out.

-what should be trained on to get the points in each stat (examples) ? There are EVs for Attack, Defense, Special Defense, HP, Special Attack, and Speed. You have to battle certain Pokemon to give you a specific type EV and amount of it as well. You can find a list of all the Pokemon and how many EVs they give here.
-how do you know your getting them?/got them? You notice the increase when the Pokemon level's up.
-will i miss out if i start aiming for them at lv 50 + ? No, but know that once the Pokemon reaches 100 there is nothing the Pokemon can do to gain EVs
-can i just get the bonus stats by buying lots of proteins, carbs, iron etc. ? I wouldn't recommend doing this because you will lose track of how your EV training is going.
-how many is there roughly? 252 is all each stat can take of EVs, which gives 63 points if completely done. Notice, you can only EV train a Pokemon in 2 stats, 252 + 252 = 504 EVs are only possible in each Pokemon, so use it wisely.
