I've read every bit of info on this subject and can't come to a conclusion as to what's going on and why it's happening. Let me run you through the whole gammut as maybe I'm missing something, and here's to hoping that someone has experienced this problem and come to a solution.
After work one night I was set to play one of my buddies from work in Tiger '09. Well he hadn't shown yet, so I went into the PS Store and was bebopping around when I saw him sign in. I exited the Store and went to start up Tiger '09. This is where things went downhill. The game started up and then the screen went black. I could still hear everything through the surround sound, but nothing on the screen. It's been like that ever since. Believe me I've tried it all. Doing the 5 second restart, switching cables, swiching HDMI ports...nothing. The original AV cables work though. and sometimes it gives the message "An HDMI connection has been detected, would you like to use this connection?" Whether I choose yes or no the outcome is the same black screen I've had. Funny thing is my Cable TV still works on all the HDMI ports on my TV. PS3 doesn't. However my PS3 DOES work on my other TV using an HDMI connection, with ALL the HDMI cables I've got, including the original one which was hooked up when this whole thing started. Unfortunately I cannot keep it in that room. So it's gotta be my TV right? Something is going on between my PS3 and my TV and I'm stumped. So lets recap... I've had both the TV and the PS3 for about 2 years now and there's never been a problem ---TV- Sony Bravia KDL-46XBR2 3 HDMI inputs. None work with PS3, all work with Cable box ---PS3- 40gb ---Switched Cables, Connections, Etc...nothng works ---Switched TV's- PS3 works on my Sharp Aquos through HDMI ---Did the 5 second reset of the PS3 system...nothing ---Sometimes the PS3 registers the HDMI connection but whether I choose yes or no the result is the same black screen ---AV cables do work on the Sony TV I think that wraps it up. ANY help or insight at all would be greatly appreciated. I think the problem must lie with the TV as the PS3 works on the other TV. I'm baffled. UPDATE: I swapped my PS3 with a friends PS3 this evening. Guess what?...His doesn't work on my TV either, but mine works on his. The thing that's bugging me to no end is that other HDMI devices work fine with my TV. Hell, up until two weeks ago everything was fine and dandy for two years. Then all of a sudden...black screen. Has anyone heard of this before? It's gotta be one for the books. Contacted Sony support THREE TIMES and they're convinced it's the PS3 and not the TV. I don't see how they can say that when my PS3 is fine on another TV. This has got to be the most frustrating and bizzare thing I have encountered to date. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated. Put an end to my misery. |

Re: Desperate cry for help...
You can try resetting your TV. I know it does not sound logical, but it can happen. You need to turn off anything that connects to the TV, that is devices like the PS3 and a cable box (Dish - DirectTV) receiver. Turn off everything, including the Power Surge if you have one. Wait 5 minutes. Turn everything on and see if that was your problem.

Re: Desperate cry for help...
Chulo could be onto something with his post, I'd try that out first. Sometimes it just needs to be reset. Also, have you tried using component or even standard AV on that TV? If it works with those than I'd say the HDMI port on your PS3 is bad, if neither of these work than I'd say your PS3 may have a defective GPU or the video ports may be bad.

Re: Desperate cry for help...
The problem is possibly the design to the cables, verify the hdmi cables on the cablebox isn't heavily different then for the ones on the ps3. Isolate the problem further, disconnect your cable box and then try it. its possible that the cable company could be interfering with other connections by excluding other tv cable boxes.
