Switching between 360 and PC using the same monitor.

Hey guys, I have a tech quandary I was hoping someone can help with.

I'm trying to run my xbox 360 through my pc monitor (acer x223w). like many newer lcd monitors, this one has 2 inputs in back (one dvi and one vga). the xbox is connected to the vga input (which i've converter to another dvi in order to connect to my hdmi > dvi cable). i also connected the original rca sound cables through a rca > minijack converter to the pc itself to run sound through the computer (this part works fine). my problem seems to be in switching between the 2 inputs. i tried to switch from digital to analogue (you have to do it through a menu rather than a convenient button and the monitor's manual leaves much to the imagination), but i got no signal and it quickly switched back to the digital signal(i've even tried converting my hdmi>dvi cord to vga and connecting that way, thinking the input needed a vga signal, but that didn't help). does anyone know how i can switch between the 2 inputs without having to use a kvm (as the cheapest one i've found is $70 and i can't afford it right now)?

Microsoft does make a 360VGA cable. You still get maximum resolution as you would for the HDMI cable. you may want to check into that over all the signal converting.

You may want to buy some white red audio cable extenders with that cable Jeremy speaks of because they are short and speakers are often further away than their length.

sound isn't an issue. i actually jerry-rigged the original xbox rca cables so they connect to the pc speaker input. this works. my problem is in switching between the 2 inputs on the monitor... i guess this is more of an Acer issue than an xbox issue.

Maybe your looking for something like this.
http://www.belkin.com/flip/

Plug your PC and 360 into the inputs and then you can switch between them both.

Yea... and the last sentence of my original post said "does anyone know how i can switch between the 2 inputs without having to use a kvm (as the cheapest one i've found is $70 and i can't afford it right now)?"

Well the only other way is if you have a monitor with dual input (Which you have stated), VGA, DVI or HDMI.
Usually you can switch between Digital (DVI) and Analog (VGA) with the buttons on the monitor.

yea, that's the ultimate issue. there are no buttons, so i have to do it through the menu (switch from digital to analogue). when i do, the screen get's no signal for 2 seconds and then switches back to digital. is the issue that i have the dvi being converted to vga (as someone previously alluded to)?
