Still got Xbox Live NAT issues...Please help :(

Ok, so for the past few days Xbox Live has been telling me that my NAT settings are strict. I've had this problem before and had been able to fix it with the help of various websites. But for some reason every so often my NAT turns strict again without me doing anything! I was able to deal with it by just opening the NAT again but this time it's not letting me make my NAT as open and is staying strict!

I know there is already a sticky thread and I thank the person who wrote it, since it's locked however I've decided to create my own thread.

1. If you have an Xbox Live Certified router, use the certified firmware for your router

I have a SpeedTouch576 which although I don't think it's certified it certainly still has done the job in the past.

2. Use UPnP. If your router supports this. Turn it on. The router will work out the ports it needs to open for Xbox live. If your router does not have this feature, check the manufacturers website for the latest firmware. (also make sure portforwarding and/or DMZ is turned off as they interfere with UPnP) ** Please note that due to a lack of authentication mechanisms, UPnP hardware is susceptible to certain malware. Use UPnP at your own risk. **

Ok, this was already on. It's always been on, tried unticking it too but doesn't change a thing.



I don't know how to turn portforwarding and or/DMZ off if they interfere with UPnP. Don't see an option :(

3. Port forwarding (look up your router on portforward.com then follow the instructions for Xbox Live 360)

I followed all of the instructions from this website for my SpeedTouch576. I made a static IP address for my computer and then port forwarded the ports it told me to. The program they told me to download (PFPortChecker) worked fine and told me the ports were open after told it the device was my computer and not 360. It couldn't check if the ports were open when I had them open for my 360 so I had to have them open for my computer, I changed back to 360 after the test.

4. Use a DMZ (De-militarized Zone)

The DMZ (De-militarized Zone) is area that sits outside of your routers firewall. Don't worry though your not at risk with your Xbox

Not sure how to do this.

A common router in the UK is the BT HomeHub which some people have NAT issues with, below is a guide showing how to resolve this problem:-

Add the Xbox Live Service

Software version 6.1.1.R

If the problem still persists, ensure your Xbox IP Address is set to auto (important) and follow the instructions below:-

* On the 360 Dashboard, select the System Blade/Network settings. Take a note of the 360 IP Address
* Open your web browser and type in http://192.168.1.254
* In the Home Hub Manager, go to Advanced (you need the switch to the admin user, the 'Admin' login details (usually admin/admin)
* Select Home Network/Device
* Identify and click on your Xbox 360 on the list (if you are not sure which one it is, select each one until you find the IP Address you noted above)
* Click 'Configure'
* Ensure "Always use the same address" it ticked
* Click 'Apply'
* Click 'Toolbox/Game & Application Sharing'
* Click 'Assign a Game or Application to a local network device'
* Choose 'Xbox live' from the drop down box
* Under 'Device' select 'User Defined'
In the field that appears enter the IP address you got from the 'Network Settings' on the 360.
Click 'Add'
* Click 'Apply'
* Power off the Homehub, wait 10 seconds and power back on again
* Run the Xbox Live test and you should have a NAT status of 'Open'

I did try changing the device that does the port forwarding to my 360's IP address but it didn't work. I assume that's what it means since I'm using a SpeedTouch 576 and not a BT router.

So I'm stuck. I also tried giving my 360 a static IP address which didn't work either. Any suggestions?

Edit: I forgot to mention, I'm using the wireless adapter for the Xbox 360 if that's of any help.

if this doesn't work, try connecting your xbox using a wired connection rather than the WiFi adapter, possibly issues here...

post the results of the "test xbox live connection" page.
and give as much information as you can with it. (such as the info in the "more info" sections)

Well, I didn't follow that exactly but I did give my 360 a static IP address and it didn't unfortunately fix the problem.

Unfortunately I can't connect my 360 with a wireless adapter as the Speedtouch only has one Ethernet port which is being used by the main computer.

Here's what it says:

"Your NAT type is Strict. People on networks with this NAT type may not be able to join certain games or hear other people while playing online. For the best online experience, you need an open NAT configuration.

Turn your router or modem off and back on, then wait 30 seconds.

"Yes I've performed this step"
"No, try another suggestion"

Since I've already tried this when I click "No, try another suggestion" it says:

"If your router supports UPnP, on your PC go to your router configuration web page and enable UPnP. You can find help on the web about NAT at www.xbox.com/networkhelp"

"Yes I've performed this step"
"No, try another suggestion"

I already have UPnP enabled as I've already said. Unfortunately, the link provided also doesn't really seem to help and if I click "Yes I've performed this step "No, try another suggestion" for a second time it just gives me this:

"There may be some additional solutions available online at www.xbox.com/networkhelp."
