Confused [SOLVED] DS lite VS DSi VS PS2 please help me choose

I have my trusty old Ds lite and and its my 16th b day coming up, my sis has a wii and PS3(she bought for her fiance) and i want both a DSi and the PS2 but i dont know which too get? i know your all thinking duh get the PS2 but i dont play console games that much cuase i dont like sitting in the same place for a long time, thus the ds lite, but i dont want a PS portable just cuase the games are inferior to the PS2, like when a game comes out for a lot of different systems but little portable systems cant hold much data so it is more limited. I like RPGs and Sim games like the sims(dum dum duhhhh) but i also would love to have the DSi cause it has the photo music thing and my mp4 player just broke. take in mind i may also get a pda from my bro who broke my last one( some how it fell on the floor and his chair leg snapped it in two beyond repair)
So please help me decide, it's in your hands now.

Re: DS lite VS DSi VS PS2 please help me choose

i heard the PSP is actually more the same (nearly) spec wise as the PS2. its gfx power isnt as much as the ps2. but its putting out on a smaller resolution. so its pretty damn good.
and the portable systems can hold a damn lot. think of it... the DS games are getting better and better (GTA:CTW) its about 128mbs on card. the DS can support gbs of data on a card. its just the developers making a game that large. the PSP's UMD discs are about 1.8gb. the thing is, they dont need as much space since content are made at lower resolutions and poly counts meaning that they dont tax on the performance of the machine. i would also like to note that GTA:CTW's FPS drops noticibly (about 15 - 20 frames. my guess) when you obtain high wanted lvl's and there are a gillion cops chasing you.

Have you thought of getting an Xbox360? they are considerably cheap now. (and games for them are cheaper than PS3.) and it has a helluva lot more games than teh PS3 and its games are better(IMO of course).
if you like RPGs, pick up the elderscrolls 3(original xbox) and Oblivion, and fallout 3. hours of fun :D. you could pick all that up for around 400AU.
the xbox also has a optional camera accessory which some games support....
i dont have any Sim type games, so i dont know which ones are on teh 360. but you can google all that.

Re: DS lite VS DSi VS PS2 please help me choose

I still have an original DS and hardly ever use it anymore. Doesn't help that I lost the charger either... I have a PSP but don't pick it up much either.

The new DS may have extra toys but I think Nintendo is just tacking things on to keep up with Sony's offerings in the PSP. Graphically the PSP is nearly on par with a PS2 and actually uses a system that's superior to the PS2. The DS offers edge anti-aliasing but the screen is lower resolution with no texture filtering. Both can support very large games but as Hirc mentioned it's up to the devs to make the best use of it.

Re: DS lite VS DSi VS PS2 please help me choose

I would go with a PSP
it can play music, movies and the games are very good but I don't own one, so take that into account. The games are more mature for the PSP and The DSi is more kid friendly.

Re: DS lite VS DSi VS PS2 please help me choose

Hi, Cute_noob_pwner. Welcome to TSF.

I have both a Nintendo DS and a Playstation 2 and the one I get more enjoyment out of would most definitely have to be my PS2. I'm not saying I don't get a ton of fun out of my DS, but the genre of games I enjoy are more populated on the PS2. I like RPGs.

The DS is a very very well done game system and the games are very entertaining, you're sure to enjoy it if you like RPGs and Sim games. The DS is also packed full of kid games like Spyro and Nickelodeon themed games.

The PS2 is a very lightweight, fast, efficient source for all genres of games since it was made around the time RPGs became more popular, you'll see lots of RPGs for it. It contains all genres and never gets old.

Playstation 2, I'd say.

Re: DS lite VS DSi VS PS2 please help me choose

well my last post was a little biased sorry I already own a PS2 so yea I would go with a PS2 too

I always aim to own consoles then maybe portable gaming systems.

any of the Final Fantasy series from 7 to 12 is playable on the PS2 and think of all the hours if you just beat those games in total playing time

60+ hours per game
times 5 games

300+ hours for just those 5 games!

I like immersive gaming and a portable gaming machine usually gives my neck a cramp or something. thats just me

All I have currently is my very nice PC and a PS2 (which I haven't touched for a while)

Re: DS lite VS DSi VS PS2 please help me choose

I spent 988 Hours on Pokemon Diamond. No joke. If you're looking for a very addictive game for the DS, get that one. I literally was addicted. I had to go to therapy and everything, lol.

You can have almost any space on at least the PSP, my friend says there is a 1TB data card in development that will cost $700.

I'd buy a PSP.... but in your case get the DSi, it is better then the DS Lite, in any way, shape or form.

No, he's not. There's a very big difference between the memory sticks that the PSP takes and your PC takes. The link you gave me directed me toward 1TB Thumb Drives, which I knew would come around sometime soon. What I'm talking about is the tiny sandisk that fits into the PSP, they don't have a 1TB in the works, they haven't even considered it yet.

I think 32Gb is current largest, though they may have reached 64 by now.
They did have plans to make a 2TB one though.

I have core i7 <3

Anyway I'm sure you can get a very large aftermarket SD stick, I'm not going to say the Black Market but there is a very large flea market near me that carries stuff like that, or go to Japan
