Do I need to play the previous games before the 2,3 etc. to enjoy? (Questions Below)

Hi, I got a PS3 and I visited www.au.gamespot.com for gaming reviews.

At the moment I'm proud that the PS3 games is now have better scores than Xbox360 games.

1. So do I need to play the previous GTA games before GTA4 to enjoy?

2. Do I need to play the previous Metal Gear Solid games before Metal Gear Solid4 to enjoy?

3. Do I need to play the first Resistance game before Resistance 2 to enjoy?

4. Do I need to play the first Killzone game before Killzone 2 to enjoy?

5.Do I need to play MotorStorm before MotorStorm Pacific Rift to enjoy?

If so, are these games still available in Australia and how much do each of them cost?

scores are scores and that's just a big flame war and I could say whatever is better than whatever, I just don't care though and neither should you. I like to play my games on PC because that's what I use.

no you don't need to pick up the older games to enjoy the newer ones. The only thing you may be missing is some backstory but it really doesn't matter. Killzone is for PS2 and its not nearly as good as killzone 2

yea all those games should be available in Australia, find your local game store and pick them up

Its all a matter of choice i own both systems and they both have their reasons to be played.

Nope their mostly all their own stories except for a couple of nods to the older ones.

You don't need to but it will greatly help you understand what is going on. MGS is also one of the greatest series released so you might just wanna play them anyways. Information wise though you should be able to find alot of it online or in the Metal Gear Database which you can download off the Playstation Store.

Not really besides backstory.

4. Do I need to play the first Killzone game before Killzone 2 to enjoy?

Not really besides backstory.

Nah.

A quick google search showed me where you can games online in Australia.

1) No, they are separate franchises. The only ones I've seen connected are III and Vice City (though the old ones might feature the same guy). The most recent are in totally different cities or with totally different characters. though in my personal opinion GTA Vice City was more enjoyable

2) Yes, but it started way back on PS1. The games are completely story driven, but you can still enjoy it. There is a lot (read: 6 hours) of story cutscenes in MGS4, so it can get easy to be lost. I would read up the backstory on Wikipedia or the like before, to give you a better sense of the plot.

3) It could help in the story, but is not totally needed. It can still be fun

4) Not totally needed, though the story isn't half bad and adds to the game.

5) No, they are only connected by franchise, as with GTA4

They usually are around $100AUS from what I know, or about $50-60 US

GTA: Each game is self-contained and you can play them in any order.

MGS: You don't have to, but you really should. You definitely won't get the full experience, or even anything close to it, if you play MGS 4 before playing the first 3. And you should play the first 3 anyway because they're awesome. There's a MGS box set available, though it might not work on your PS3, depending on backwards compatibility.

Resistance and Killzone: You maybe should, but it's not that important. You likely won't be playing either game for its story.

MotorStorm: Nah. Go nuts.

Yes, it always helps to play the original/first before playing newer games.

Also, 360 > PS3.

I don't really want to hear that the PS3 is better than the Xbox 360 just because

I can get into good reasons of why I don't like the PS3 too much or why I don't like the Xbox 360

I'm just not too into when people say something is better than something just because and no reason given.

I posted "Also, 360 > PS3." because that's how I felt. The point when an opinion becomes harassment will be never.

Saying "Also, 360 > PS3." is absolutely no different than say "DS or PS2?" (Which happens to be the very thread you're posting in right now), They're both a matter of opinions.

There's nothing wrong with stating your opinion on a subject, it's healthy discussion.
I, for example, prefer PC's.
