GBA LCD screen problem
Hello,
I'm having problems with little dust or something that is white-dot like on my GBA LCD screen. Nothing big, but it sometimes bugs me when I play games. Problem is that I would like to try to clean it to remove that white dot, but I don't know how to remove top part of GBA so I can reach LCD screen. First problem is the rubber "screws" that I don't know how to open. http://img13.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gba.jpg It's not dead pixel because that "dot" is still there when i turn off LCD display. Could someone with experience with these type of things help me? Thanks. |

Re: GBA LCD screen problem
Hi Reiko, welcome to TSF.
Those rubber 'screws' are basically just caps, you should be able to pry them out (it won't be easy though). Underneath them is a special kind of screw. You need a tri-wing screwdriver (also known as a jewellers screwdriver) to open the faceplate up. A few electronic stores carry them, they are also pretty common on ebay if you are willing to purchase one. |

Re: GBA LCD screen problem
Hello, thanks.
Anyway, will I be able to put "rubber screws" back when I am done with cleaning? Are you sure that's proper way to get *only* LCD part viable for me to clean it? Thanks. |

Re: GBA LCD screen problem
No problem.
The rubber caps should just pop straight back in, they just cover up the screws, they serve no other purpose. Not sure what you mean in your second question sorry? Keep in mind this will void your warranty. Here is a video of a GBA SP being pulled apart. At the 20 second mark you can see him take out the LCD and how he does it. Re: GBA LCD screen problem
I don't have warranty anyway :)
For second questions, sorry for describeing it so badly , but : Is this (removing "rubber screws" and unscrewing 3-wing screws) way to go if I want only to clean LCD. I was wondering, because I was reading that there is possibility that I do more harm then good , because when I open part where LCD is, there will get more dust then before? Thanks. |

Re: GBA LCD screen problem
Yep, the only way to clean in between the screen and the case is to open it up.
There is a chance that more dust will get it, depends on how careful you are and how dusty your environment is though. If it doesn't bug you that much, don't bother. If it really annoys you, you know what you need to do. It's really up to you whether or not it's worth it. |
