Hi
I have just bought a D-Link (DIR-635) router to wireless network our home. The xbox, (at the other end of the house) picks up the conection fine, and can connect to Xbox live, what we are having troubles with, is making the Xbox pick up the computer and vise versa. We want to share media from the computer to the Xbox to view photos and play music. We have followed the Xbox tutoral by opening Windows media player > library> Media sharing> and selected the Xbox icon.... The radial button that says 'Allow' is greyed out to continue with the tutorial. we have AVG securities, and I have called them, we have tested the firewall and securites system by turning it off and back on and it does not effect the 'Allow' button. I have called Microsoft who said it was an Xbox issue, and palmed me off, and I have called xbox and they wanted me to call Micrsoft. I was informed that the router has a firewall as well and needs to be configured???. Has anyone had this issue and know of something I could do that could help.... Please help, I even called my computer fix it store and they recon I had to call AVG???? I also read that you have to open Ports and pt in the Xbox 360's MAC address. I have attempted to check that the ports are open, not knowing what I am doing, and the port numbers I entered said they already existed, so I assumed they were already open? (Dont know if this is correct) and I dont know where to put the MAC address, and to be quite honnest I dont know what that is?? Please HELP me! Rach |

Re: Conecting XBOX to PC via Wireless router
Hi rach877 and welcome to TSF,
You need to install the Xbox 360 Media Center on your PC. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/pcsetup/alldownloads.htm Select your OS to download the correct setup files.

Re: Conecting XBOX to PC via Wireless router
I honestly think since they switched to the NXE (New Xbox Experience) interface on the 360, you need to use Vista Home Premium or Vista Ultimate for your PC. Since I got NXE, I could no longer connect my XP machine with Media Center to my 360 (I posted a separate thread on that).
If you want to deal with the router, here are a couple links on port settings: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908874 http://howto.wired.com/wiki/Set_Up_P..._Your_Xbox_360 But I don't think that's related to the media center. Go to the Learn More section in the Media Center portion of Xbox 360 (on Xbox Live), you'll see that it says "needs" Vista Home Premium or Vista Ultimate. Let me know if you find out anything, I'm just as lost since NXE came around a few months ago. I did all the Windows Media Player sharing settings in the Library and all that too. |

Re: Conecting XBOX to PC via Wireless router
Check this link out, basically says you don't have Windows Media Center unless you have Vista Home Premium or Vista Ultimate (typical Microsoft, forcing the upgrade):
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...ows-vista.aspx Also, try pinging the IP address of your Xbox console from the computer you're trying to connect to (go to command prompt, and type command "ping <ip address of 360>". If it responds, you may get the connection like I did from the PC, but not sure if you'll still get to fully connect with the Xbox. |

Re: Conecting XBOX to PC via Wireless router
Thank you so much for replying. you know what, I was just working on the problem again, and thinking, "How do I get media centre as I only have Media Player" but the coment made about Windows vista is probabley the real issue. And since I am now not the only one with the problem I may not be as stupid as I felt. We were considering buying a HP touch computer before all of this, and think now this has just sealed the deal. Ill let you know how I go with Windows Vista on the new computer. Thanks again with the advise.
In the mean time I am trying to use Zune, which I have just down loaded, I did have some hope that it may have worked but Im not so convinced now. If it does I will definately let you know. You would think that a hell of a lot of people would have been put out if they all needed to upgrade their windows XP to vista to keep there media centre on their xbox working. They are hungry money little shits, Micosoft!!!

Re: Conecting XBOX to PC via Wireless router
We ended up getting a new HP Touch computer that runs as a TV as well. The Media Center came with it, and after a little bit of work, we got the whole house networked. what a great feeling. We now have our Xbox conecting to our computer, and both the computer and our lounge 50inch tv can record TV shows, rewind TV, and share files. It is all wireless and so amazing. We cant believe we did not do it sooner. You were spot on the money ngrome when you mentioned the XP and Vista problem. Thanks again for pointing that out. What other gagets can we set up now. I think my next project will be to set up my printers to run wireless through the router. How exciting.. Hey the Touch XP is a pretty awsome computer too by the way.
