[SOLVED] PS3. Cant start. correct hard disk not found

Recently upgraded the HDD on my MGS 80gb PS 3 to a seagate 320GB,5400RPM SATA II (3gbs)
Worked fine for a while and now once a week I receive the message "can not start, correct hard disk not found" Restarting solves the problem but this happens once a week now.

Some research revealed that others solved the problem by using a jumper to force the HDD to operate at SATA I (1.5gbs), theory being the PS controler doesnt recognize SATA II.

I was able to get a jumper but with it installed, I can not put the HDD back into the PS3 as it protrudes from the HDD.

The picture I have attached below shows a jumper installed with prongs the same length as the original so it appears to be able to fit back into the PS 3. has anyone ever seen something like that? Any idea where to get them or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have an electronics store near you? My local "Radio Shack" has various sized jumpers.

Another thing you could do, but I don't recommend it is:
- Bend the pins together.

WARNING, they could snap.

Funny you mention bending them together and snapping them. I thought about clipping the pins out. Would that work in the same way as the jumper? Does the jumper stop the flow of data from 2 pins or does it do something else?

Clipping the pins out wouldn't complete the circuit. Jumpers complete circuits. It is best to get a shorter jumper from an electronics shop.

Good to hear.

It's strange that it would jump back and forth between mode I and II.
