Ps2 sometimes loads to game, sometimes doesn't...

Hi guys, i have a ps2 SCHP-39002 version 7. I kept getting the DRE coming up so i followed alot of useful information on here. Cleaned the laser, the rollers, got rid of all the dust etc. Also did the white knob thing that changes the disc height. Well i got as far as being able to load a game (ben10) i can let it go through to the stage where you are just about to play and gets stuck on the loading screening. I will then reset it, and it won't read the disk and bring up the DRE sign again. Try again a couple of minutes later and the same thing will happen. If i put in GTA San Andreas it always comes up with please insert PS2 format disc. Please can anyone help me! Thanks!

ok, i've been adjusting the screw thats next to the laser lens, and i can get San Andreas going but you can hear the music skipping and then it freezes, unfreezes then just freezers. And ideas please? Sorry but i thought i'd add to let you know how it was going. Thanks.

if your discs are scratched or dirty you might need to use a disc cleaner, if not your PS2 is probably damaged.

My same version stopped playing disks around the time that GTA: San Andreas and GT4 were out. I couldn't figure out the issue but brought it into a Best Buy and technology trade-in for a slim one. No issues ever since.
