Xbox360 causes pc to stop downloading

Hi guys,

Ive set up a belkin wireless router via a cable modem which works fine between pc and laptop, the xbox detects and works fine also.

However, if im downloading on the pc or laptop and the xbox goes live the download just stops/freezes, the pc isnt freezing just the download.

Any ideas please?

Hi, welcome back to TSF...

When you say set up, you mean plugged it in, correct?
Do you understand what port forwarding is and if so have you tried that?
Most routers have a uPNP (universal plug and play) feature for ports. Unfortunately this can give priority to one path more than another.
Just so you know, I have a Belkin router too, which is serving three desktops and my 360. Ive sucessfully used the connection on all four machines (downloading @ 800kbps on one, 1.1mbps on another, surfed normally on the third desktop and played GTA4 online against 15 others) with no little/no lag and bear in mind im not even close to the telephone exchange either, I live in the middle of no-where.

I can take you through port forwarding step by step.
What connection speed do you have? (down+up stream)

Hi m8,

When i say i set it up i mean i installed the router as normal. I never had any experience in port forwarding just basic install router software plug router in set up security.

Wot u say sounds likely to be the problem so if u can talk me through it that would be great, however the set up is not mine but a friends so a set of instructions would really help if pos.

I have been inside router configuration before but what i need to do from there please.

Speed he is getting is between 4-5mb.

Please supply the exact model of the Belkin router. Most of the config pages are the same, but I might as well be certain.

If your router supports it I suggest you set static IPs for your PC and 360, plus any other devices that are connected. It may be an IP conflict that's causing the disconnects.

Please follow this instruction, hold the Start key and press R
A run dialog will appear. In this box type cmd then enter
A black window will appear, this is an msdos window.
Then type ipconfig /all
note the space after the word ipconfig

Then after all the info has scrolled up, right click in the black window and select all.
The window will turn white, press enter and it will copy this info. Then come to this forum and right click in the reply box and paste
