Cry PSP and the Black Screen

I just bought a used PSP from a seller on amazon.com. In anticipation of receiving it. I bought "Crisis Core FFVII". As I pulled the item from its packaging I immediately went to turn it on. I go to a black screen. Being my first PSP I'm not sure what I'm doing is correct so I try and try and try again. Read an online owners manual. But still a constant black screen. And when I load in a UMD (Crisis Core) it just seems to spin and spin and spin and still no change from the black screen.

With no game inside it will actually make the start up noise, and i can press buttons and hear the sound of the scrolling. But no image. Display light adjusts from dim to bright but hardly noticeable on a blank black screen.

As I am already emailing my seller, and complaining and working out a refund. Maybe there can be something done to result in avoiding this return to sender hassle?

Do I need a Memory stick to power it on, or run a UMD. As I haven't purchased one yet.. I am new to the PSP world. And it hasn't been a pretty welcome. Can anyone PLEASE help and give some advice or hopefully know how to correct this horrific blank screen?

Re: PSP and the Black Screen

Shine a bright light on it. If you can see a faint image then it's likely that the backlight is dead.

I have the new Slim model and Crisis Core. It'll load the game only when i tell it to. You don't need a memory card or game to boot the system.
