Xbox Live S.O.S

i think i must have the worst live setup ever and just cant get it to work (not being very technical doesnt help either) i have a virgin media set top box providing internet via ethernet to my vista computer from there it goes from a usb to ethernet converter to my xbox 360 now i have looked around forums to try and find answers but ive given up and figured id try this both my comp and xbox are showing the link is established and ive changed both the xbox and computer to automatically search for networks but my xbox still fails the ip test i called all the technical support lines and they just told me what id already tried if anyone can help tht would be great.

Re: Xbox Live S.O.S

Probably best to use a PC or laptop instead of the modem in your Virgin Media set-top box.

Re: Xbox Live S.O.S

I think if you are connecting to Live through your PC then it needs to be set up with DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol). This will allow your PC to act as a router and supply all connected devices with an IP address (you will have to enter the set top box's setup page, if you can, and disable DHCP on this as it may interfere with your PC assigning IPs).

Ideally you should have your Virgin box-> then a router->then your PC and Xbox connected to that (an ethernet port for each). This cuts down latency and basically cuts out the middle man/machine.
Virgin is cable connection (fibre) is it not?
