need help with ps3 network

im having a problem with online gaming with GTA4. every time i try to join an online game or create one i have about ten seconds of play time before the connection drops out. when i return to the ps3 menu the network status is fine. i have looked through heaps of help, but no luck with my problem. this has happend two days in a row now and help would be very much aprecisted. thnx
btw im running off a netgear WPN824 V.2 wireless router

Hi Munky, Welcome to TSF.

Would it be possible for you to try and run it via a wired connection? The wireless connection probably won't give you the smoothest game play.

Also, have you forwarded the ports for the game you're playing?

i am hopping to try other avenus befor going out and buying a 5m ethernet cable to run through the middle of my louge but if that all i can do its worth a try. and also i have no idea what forwarding the ports for the game is

In order to play GTA IV via the PS3 network you will need to open the following ports on your router or modem:

UDP ports:

6672, 28900

TCP ports:

8001, 27900

For access to the Playstation Network the following ports are used:

TCP ports:

80 HTTP, 8080 HTTP, 443 HTTPS, 5223 JABBER, 3478, 3479, 3480

UDP ports

3478, 3479

Apparently GTA has been having a fair few issues regarding online play so it might not just be you.

With port forwarding? Sure.

is a link to instructions for adding the PSN to your router. If it doesn't cover all the ports mentioned above, simple repeat the steps and change the numbers.

If you're unsure of any of the steps, post back
