playing movies
I am trying to find out what I need to stream and play DVD movie files that live on a NAS connected to my router on a TV. Will any of the game consoles like the X-Box 360 (with wifi adapter, of course) do this? The choices for the NAS are a generic NAS and something like the HP Mediasmart server which is basically a computer (w/o a video card) running MS Windows Home Server operating system.
I don't really understand where the codec that plays the video must live. In the case of a generic NAS it seems this would have to be on the box attached locally to the TV. But in the case of the media server I wonder if the codec lives there and just sends a video stream to the local TV box? Anyone have a setup that works for this? |

Re: playing movies
To stream the videos you'll need the files to be on a PC or have the storage device directly connected to the PC.
