Playstation 3 suround sound

Need helf connecting my new sony bravia dvd/surround sound system to my ps3 please. I currently have a hdmi cable going from my dvd player/reciever to the tv. An optical cable attaching my ps3 to my receiver and finally a normal scart connection from my ps3 to my tv! will this etup work or will i have to buy some more cables etc.

In the ps3 sound options when i turn it to the optical option i just get no sound

Please help. cheers

Hi Loftstar, Welcome to TSF

As I see it, there are too many connections.

HDMI - PS3 -> Receiver? -> TV
Optical - PS3 -> Receiver
SCART - PS3 - TV

Why do you need the SCART connection and is the 'receiver' your sound system?

Hello, thanks for the reply. The connection meathod i had was the problem. I know have a hdmi going from my ps3 to my tv. A scart going from my receiver to my tv and an optical cable from my receiver to my ps3. All is well and it works hoorah. However this has lead me to another problem. With this setup i am getting hd vision from my ps3 via the hdmi cable. However am i getting hd sound

I need a bit of clarification though, what exactly is the purpose of your receiver?

My set is
-HDMI - PS3 to TV
-Optical Digital - PS3 to sound system

all my surround sound speakers are attached to it and it has a dvd player, which im sure i will never use, just bought it for surround sound gaming.

are you saying i dont need to attaach the receiver to my tv to get surround sound from my ps3?

If you have it setup right, then no.
