GBA SP won't play GBA games

A friend of a friend has a GBA SP that doesn't work right. When you put a GBA game in and power it up, the classic Game Boy intro pops up, but there is a black bar where it should say Nintendo and it goes no further. I tried an old Game Boy game and it started up fine. Any ideas?

Common problem with cartridge games. They get dusty and dirty. try blowing or useing compressed air on the game and the gameboy where they meet. might take a few tries though but this usually works.

I tried that and it still doesn't work. The GBA games work fine in my regular GBA, but won't play in this SP. However it plays classic GB games just fine.

Could also be that i know some of the newer GBs aret fully backwards compatale if i remember riht, i dont know them that well to saythough, sorry
