HDMI for the PS3
Hey guys, I got an 80GB PS3 for the holidays (woohoo!).
Here's my problem. I have an HDMI cable that hooks up my PS3 to my HDTV. My PS3 detected that I could use the HDMI setting, and asked me if I wanted to use that. Ready to cream my pants at the glorious sight I was about to see, I click on "Yes", and wait. And wait. And wait for 30 seconds until it comes back. I checked my TV settings, and the HDMI cables, and everything is in the right order. I checked the manual and online manual, but I can't figure out how to get it to work. As of now, I'm using a composite connection at 1080i, and it's working just fine. Still looks good, but I want HDMI. I have 5 inputs. Input 3 is the composite connection to my PS3, and Input 5 is the HDMI connection. When I make the switch to HDMI, it does not switch to Input 5. It blanks out on Input 3, but does not "disconnect" from Input 3; meaning it's still on Input 3. I'll have to find a better way to explain it, but as for now I'll have to gather some data like the model number of the HDTV to help you guys understand. If you guys already know what the problem and the answer is, please tell me. I'm dying to play Assassin's Creed in HDMI. Thanks again! |

Re: HDMI for the PS3
uhm...
first of all switch on your tv. Make sure you HDMI cable is in the correct input. Put your TV-channel on HDMI Then re-configure your ps3 so that it recognises the HDMI connection you want to use. For this, just hold in the ps3 button untill it beeps 2 times. Normally it should work fine this way... |

Re: HDMI for the PS3
If your TV doesn't support 1080P you may need to make sure that your PS3 isn't outputing at 1080P or the TV won't use the signal. I don't own a PS3 (I lack a first-born child to trade for one :P) but most consoles these days give you a choice between using i and p output settings.

Re: HDMI for the PS3
Normally the ps3 autoconfigures the output to the TV-limits if you start up as described above...
You can always test the maximum resolution later using the ps3 settings menu! |

Re: HDMI for the PS3
1080i and 1080p arent going to be much of a difference. do you have an acutal hdmi cable hooked up to each? composite cables do not transmit an hd signal (red white and yellow) however the component (red green blue) do. still needing the red and white for audio. basically the only advantage in using an hdmi cable is eliminating the 5 plugs you have to use with component to just 1 plugin, the HDMI with full 1080p capabilites which still isnt a big difference over 1080i that the components offer.
