Wii help plz?

Whenever I plug in a Gamecube controller into my Wii it turns off... any help?

When does it do it? When you plug it in while on or when you have it plugged in when you start it up.

A few questions...

Is this a Nintendo-made GameCube controller or aftermarket?

Does this happen immediately or after time? If so, how long?

Have you gone online with the Wii and updated?
