It really should be plug and play. Put the receiver into the Gamecube, then power up the Gamecube, then power on your controller. Perhaps that will work.
For your knowledge, to post a picture, save it onto your hard drive, and then go to www.imageshack.us and upload the image. It will give you a set of URLs to view the image with. Direct link will be sufficient.
