Exclamation PS2 disc read error and freezing in the same place <(^_^)>

Well I have a big ps2 (not the slim version) and when I put in a disc, it says disc read error. I've tried the diagnosis thing, and it won't work. can someone please tell me a solution? <(^_^)> And about the freezing in the same place: I bought Final Fantasy 12 a month or so ago, and when I go to the light place to enter the "Tomb of Raithwall", the screen gradually goes white(thats part of the game), and then it freezes right there, but the music still goes on. Another place where it freezes up, is in Rebanstre, where the weapon shop is, I go in the door, and the screen gradually goes black(thats part of the game) and it stays that way, but the music still goes on. And whenever I press the triangle button, during gameplay, the screen goes to a transparent blue(thats part of the game) and then it freezes right there, and guess what happens next...the music still goes on! Whats the dealio! Oh, and I almost forgot: when ever press the "load game" in the main menu, it gradually goes black(its part of the game) but it doesn't freeze, it takes, like a full 20 sec., before it goes to the game play. My freind has the same game, and it should only take 3 sec.! COULD SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!
(P.S If you read the whole post, you have a lot of patiance, and I'm sorry if the post is too long)

Hi, my guess is your laser is gone, theyre roughly £30-£40 on ebay. Pretty simple to fit. But the best thing to do is take the existing one out and clean it with a q tip (cotton bud) and some rubbing alchohol.

Its pretty simple, you wont need to take the laser out to clean it, just open it up, you remove all the screws on the bottom and carefully lift it off, Heres a guide to cleaning it

Re: PS2 disc read error and freezing in the same place <(^_^)>

Ok, thanks. I opened it up and everything, and cleaned the lens with rubbing alcohol, and a q-tip, but when i put in the game, and watch it spin, it doesnt spin! as soon as i put in the disc, the spinner thing spins, and the lens laser light thing goes red, and then the spinner thing stops spinning. the spinner spins a quarter of a full rotation, and then it stops. I turned the white gear, north of the lens thing clockwise, at every possible click, and i press the reset button, thinking that the lens is the problem, but the spinner stops spinning every time. can you tell me the problem?
