Videotaping gameplay. HELP!!!

Okay, I've heard about people videotaping their gameplay via VCR. Now, I'm not sure if anyone can help me on this, but I have DirecTV and have to use a special box. Now, I've wondered for years how people videotape their gameplay. I figured out how to do it today, but here's the deal. I thought the VCR in my room was broken (later found out I just had it set up wrong), so I tried doing this in another room of my house. I had to do a lot of things. I successfully had my TV set up so that I could record my gameplay on my PS3 (hard as it is to believe, it's actually extremely important that I'm able to do this, I have my reasons), and I even recorded some. Now, I go to set this up in MY room now that I've figured out how to get my VCR working, and it doesn't work. I'm furious. I take everything back to the previous room that I had accomplished my goal and set it up again after I had WRITTEN down what I'd done to get this to work, and again, doesn't work. I've lost it.

Now, what I wrote down and what I believe I did was plug in the PS3 colored prongs into the Input sockets on the VCR, then used an extra colored cable, linking one side of prongs to the Out plugs on the VCR and the other side of prongs to my DirecTV receiver. But again, I tried this again and no go, so with my damn luck I wrote something down wrong or some crap.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME FIGURE OUT WHAT THE HELL TO DO TO VIDEOTAPE MY GAMEPLAY WHILE I HAVE DIRECTV (of course, firstly being able to SEE the video game on the TV. When I had it set up right, the screen was black until I turned on my PS3 where I saw the game. Now even with all of this stuff plugged in in all these area, I still see the programs on TV)??? Any help will be appreciated GREATLY. Help me, and thanks.

Re: Videotaping gameplay. HELP!!!

Using regular RCA cables that are red, white, and yellow you can connect from the console to the VCR and record. The downside is that the picture will be rather poor.

Maybe it's due to having DirecTV, but simply putting the colored prongs into the VCR doesn't do anything, since I can't see the game, just what's on TV. Again, I already KNOW that I had used not only the PS3 colored prongs, but another set of prongs (a set on each end of the cord). Again, I already accomplished the ability to record, and even WROTE I DOWN, but apparently I wrote something wrong or missed something, and again, I know for sure I used an extra set of those colored prongs.

Going nuts here...

You'll have make it very simple for it to work. You'll use the RCA output cables from the PS3 and plug those into the input of the VCR. You'll use another set of RCA cables to go from the VCR to the TV so you can play and record at the same time.

Grr... what about channel or configuration? I have a an input and output set of ports for the RCA cables on VCR and TV, I've tried the cables as you said in every order and my PS3's menu does not show up on the screen. Unless I missed a certain configuration? Ugh, it pisses me off because I had it before, but I can't seem to figure it out NOW.

Re: Videotaping gameplay. HELP!!!

The VCR and TV will likely use something like "Video 1" or "AUX" as the input channel.

I'm not sure that was it, I thought it was on channel 3, but I guess I could be wrong. But how do I actually tape it if it's on a video channel? I did tape some previously, which makes me think I must have had it on channel 3

Okay, I currently have it set up the way you suggested (unless I'm missing some little detail somehow), and nothing but the normal TV displays, the PS3 screen is not viewable on any channel, including video. *** did I do before to get this to work? :(
