Wierd Clicking and grinding noise

Hi, Ive had a PS2 for about a year and a half now and ive been having no problems with it, untill recently my PS2 has been making strange noises and has not been playing normally. When i start up the PS2, it makes a grinding noise for about 2 seconds, then the disc tray opens. When i put in a disc, the PS2 then starts making more grinding noises and sometimes scratches the disc. I have not dropped it in any way and i have no idea what is wrong with it. Any Ideas? Please reply back

it sounds like something is out of alignment in the drive, use a torch to see if you can see anything that has any indication that the disk is hitting it

I have a similar problem. My ps2 makes these weird clicking and grinding noises whenever i play a game and then freezes. I have heard this could be due to some rails or something not being lubricated and whatever. My warrenty has expired so if anyone could post a guide or somethig so i can open it up and fix it myself. Keep in mind i have never opend it up before.

Well like you said you have never opened it before so i suggest you use this guide on how to open it first. http://www.exploitstation.com/index.php?page=ps2repair

As you see on the third picture there is a lense in the middle. On each side of the lense you have these two metal sticks on which the lense moves up and down. You have to lubricate or put some greese on these two metal stick so that the lense can move. That did it for me hope it helps you. Ohh and by the way make sure you work on you'r ps2 plugged off! Best of luck
