Ip Address problems
I have a dell 1300 inspirion and it is about 6 yrs old give or take.Well a few ago it got so slow that it no longer could play games on websites and I removed a lot of stuff n defraged it as well and then my husband called Dell Tech Support and they did their thing and they ended up having to go in through there computer and link us into them with Dell's website and he moved like 7,000 files that wasn't needed and then he found 2 trogjans and he removed them too but then come across something that had comprised a browser so he removed it and some other things he said the report would arrive by mail in 7 to 10 days. But he would not tell us what it was just that he thought that are computer had been hacked in to and then he had my husband try to access the internet after he was done removing stuff and it would not access the internet. So then he was like well we can re install a new system and get your ip address back but it will be around $20 and it is shipped to you and you install it yourself. My husband was mad and the phone company can't help either so a friend removed everything that wasn't needed and installed everything we needed with an updated compared to what we had.It is much browser but still can not connect to the internet. We use a modem and modem is fine because I have a new dell laptop and run off the wifi.My phone company said that we would have to call dell back and have them give us a new ip address.I need help on this my husband and kids want there laptop back since they are not allowed to touch my new one lol hope someone can help desperate

Re: Ip Address problems
So your laptop is able to connect to the router without problems and use the internet but your dell computer is unable to receive an IP address, is this correct?

Re: Ip Address problems
Asking Dell for a new IP address is nonsense . . You can safely ignore anything that tech told you.
Lets take a peek at your network environment: First: Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet. Then: Remove all the stored wireless network profiles and search for the network again. How to Remove Stored Wireless Network Profiles for XP, Vista, and Windows 7 Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if foundhere's how. Then: with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD At the > prompt type type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command. Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Come back here and Paste the results in a message. If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB drive, or a CD-R disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here. then please Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, click the Networks link on the upper left and paste a screen shot of that screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework. To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here. |

Re: Ip Address problems
Hello I am back again I feel so stupid but have never had to do this stuff before.Sometimes I'm computer dummy on certain areas lol
Okay I think that my phone company is going to have to come out and download there stuff back into my laptop before I can get an area connection to do anything.I can't even watch a dvd on it because it says there is a driver missing. That is what the dell tech did too I am missing drivers like crazy. When I ordered my internet services they had to come out install a program and type a lot of stuff in to get my modem and info onto the computer so I figured since all that stuff is gone that they need to come out n do that again.Anyone think that is what I need to do here??? |
Re: Ip Address problems
I think that tech messed up more than he helped...

Re: Ip Address problems
The Phone company will not help you with your computer. If a computer on your home network connects through your DSL modem/Router then you have internet connection. And they won't do anything else.
OK so, now as far as the Dell computer is concerned, Go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager do you see any devices with yellow marks? If so, these devices need drivers. You can download the drivers from this Dell Web site. Download these drivers to a USB Flash Drive on an internet computer and then transfer them over to this computer. Install the Chipset Driver and then the Network Adapters, including WiFi. Once you get internet, you can come back to this page on this computer and download the rest of the drivers directly. |
