Hi My Toshiba Satellite L300 laptop, vista home, got nocked off the coffee table. When I started it up it ask for recovery disk .I ran the disk and at the end it said an error occered click ok to restart so I did. It started up and loaded to home page. Then the page came up with final system setup, which tried to unzip and install office 2007 trial. I cant get past this screen. I am trying to erase the harddrive using the recovery disk option to erase as im typing. Do you have any suggestions there is no fisical damage inside or out.

Whats up no takers?? I since ran the recovery disk and get an error at the end. So I reboot and go into the sysprep and install all the zip files in each folder except the ones the don't pertain to my toshiba. Most of those will tell you they are not needed. Laptop is running good so far but! got to get rid of a error at startup that says Toshiba power saver failed to start?Any help is welcome.
Thanks ex-pop
Thanks for reply I got rid of the error at startup. Now I can run the recovery disk and each time at the end it says ERROR: 10-FA11-045D Recovery error press ok to turn off .I have googled this error and other people have this problem but I cant find a fix. When I click ok the computer starts and the desktop comes up .I have to go in to sysprep to finish installing all the drivers and utilities. Everything works and I can update security and so on. Big But after a while it freezes up like white over screens on any thing I trie to do.
I know this is a lot of info but I would love some help figuring this out.
Thanks ex-pop
Yes I have but i will try it again. I am running the recovery disk again and it gives you an option to clean the hardrive first which I am trying now .Then it runs the recovery program to set it back to out of box status.
Thanks ex-pop
Back again I have run the recovery disk many times and it stops at the same place .If I could get it to finish it may work. Now the laptop starts and goes to the desktop and connects to the internet but no matter what program I try to use it freezes up.Like trying to update the security the screen turns white haze then freezes.
Still dealing with it Ex-pop
Recovery errors such as 10-FA11 or 10-FA12 on Toshiba laptops usually indicate a bad hard drive, bad memory, or bad recovery dsics. Run the hard drive diag as joeten suggested, if it passes the tests, then run run memtest86+ and see if that passes the tests.
Also, the computer not finishing recovery (gets stuck in the final configuration) is common in the L300's but only if the motherboard has been replaced, so has the motherboard in your computer even been replaced?
Thanks I have run chkdsk/r and it shows bad sectors but it will not repair itself. I think you are right it seems to be the hard drive.I have checked the memory its ok.
Also the motherboard has never been replaced. If I buy a new HD can I use the recovery disk to reload it?
Thank you Ex-pop
