My System

It sounds like either the CD media or drive is defective, hard to say which. I'd start by trying to copy the media on another system and try to do the installation with the copied media. If the copy fails, you'll know the media is defective. If you get a good copy, and it still fails on your install, my money's on the drive being bad.

Also (if the hard disk is G: ), try low-level formatting the hard disk. They sometimes straighten up after one of these moves.

What letter IS your hard disk?

He can't read the CD, so you want him to format his hard disk?

Boot to a Win98 floppy boot disk and choose boot with CD-Rom support to see if it detects the drive as being there!
