Hello everyone,
This is the last resort for me. I have tried everything I can think of to fix these issues, to no avail. And so I come to this forum, in the hope that someone can help me.
First, a bit of backstory: on 13/02/17 I reinstalled Windows onto my new SSD, uninstalling it from my HDD and wiping that HDD in the process. I then proceeded to reinstall everything, including Steam, Origin, and Uplay. No issues.
Then, earlier this week, I decide to play some GTA V. Except when I try to open it through Steam, and try to log in to my Rockstar account, I get an error "Email not found or password invalid". But I can log into my account on the Rockstar website fine. Just in case, I attempt several password resets: No result. Try reinstalling the game several times: No result. Try contacing Rockstar Support: 4 Days Later - Still no Response. Even attempt a Steam refund, telling them that I'm literally being denied access to the game: No result - as I purchased the game months ago and have 10hrs playtime. Okay, so this was a problem, but one game wasn't something to particularly worry about.
Then, today, I go to install the Ghost Recon: Wildlands Open Beta. I download it through steam, go to open it, then get redirected to Uplay, being told I have to go Online to activate the game. But every time I log in to go "online", I remain Offline. Every single time. Since I started playing Watch_Dogs 2 earlier in the week, the online aspects were disabled, I assumed due to server maintenance, but combined with these login issues, it was clear there was another problem. So I try the same things again. Reinstall Uplay - No Result. Except for the fact I now can't even play Watch_Dogs 2 offline, because after a fresh install of Uplay, you have to log in online once to be able to log in offline. Along with the other games I have on Uplay, that's now £150 of games I can no longer play. Worried that the problem would persist elsewhere, I check my Origin. Offline. At least now I know not to attempt a reinstall, so I won't lose another £100 of games. But Steam is fine.
So I contact Ubisoft's live chat support, and we spend several hours trying to fix the issue, but even he admitted that he had no idea what was causing this. I'm convinced it's something to do with my Kaspersky Anti-Virus, but even when I disable it, the problem is still there. I would uninstall it to fix the issue, but I don't want to buy another key to reactivate it. And surely when I reinstall it the problem would return?
Another unbearable issue I've been having since reinstalling Windows is with Chrome. It's become almost unuseable. At first everything had a blue tint, which a quick reinstall cleared. But now Chrome refuses to let me install extensions, saying "Could not move extension directory into profile". And on top of that is the ads and pop-ups. Every time I right click to open a page in a new tab, my page is replaced by an advert, or smothered with a pop-up (ReImage repair is a recurring problem). I've tried about a dozen clean installs of Chrome, deleting all it's files, I've performed no less than 20 full virus/malware scans of my PC, and I've manually scoured my C Drive for dodgy programs. And still the problems remain.
Any help to resolve either or both of these problems would be so helpful, as ever since my Windows reinstall I've had nothing but trouble. All I want is a clean, fully-functioning chrome, and unrestricted access to games I've purchased myself. These issues are driving me insane.
Thanks in advance for any help,
-David
(Sorry if this is in the wrong forum subsection, I'm new here, but figured it's mostly a Gaming issue)
