My wife worked all afternoon on a word document, saving it all the while. When she retrieved it, the entire document is nothing but symbols of squares and other symbols. I tried to highlight the document and change the font, to no avail. Anyone know the problen/fix? She worked very long on this and I'd like to recover it for her.
We saved it both on the computer's hard drive as well as on a flash drive however when we open it from either place, the text is all messed up and displays symbols instead of letters. I tried to highlight it and change the font but to no avail. Someone told me that the "file is corrupt" but I don't really know what that means.
It may be that your Normal.dot template is screwed up. Go to this file and delete it (replace Main User with your user): C:\Documents and Settings\Main User\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates. Word should recreate it as default when you open it after you delete it.
To be clear. Normal.dot is in the folder C:\Documents and Settings\Main User\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates.
