I have a very large Outlook 2003 file that's vital to my home business. Although I back up my other files every day, no-one seems to be able to tell me how to back-up outlook. All I get is "it's a .pst file and it's very complicated!" Can you please help?

Search your computer for all files with an extension of .pst and make sure you back them up along with the rest of your important files. Make sure outlook is not running when you do this. Unless I am badly mistaken, there is nothing complicated about this.

Read this MS article also for more information on pst files.

Also ... Be sure to keep your pst's size below 1gb ... preferably well below. Corrupt pst files are very tough to recover.

Thanks so much for your help so far rbalaji and Chevy. I printed out the article and was going just fine until I came unstuck at Instruction 10. At step 8 I noted (and in fact copied) the file path and name ... and as per step 10, went thru 'My Computer' and pasted the file path copied in step 8. I then got a message "You are attempting to open a file of type 'Office Data File' (.pst). These files are used ... etc."
I clicked on 'Open with ...' but then got another message "Windows cannot open this file ... what program created it?" I can't seem to progress from there!
Did I do something wrong? Do I need special software to open a .pst file (such as available from Pareto)? Thanks.

Why are you trying to open the file? The instruction on line 10 only tells you to copy it to your backup medium. I am confused.
