[SOLVED] Internet ERxplorer 8 Error Messages
I have on three occasions, during Microsoft Updates, been offered IE8 and each time I have accepted the update and attempted to install IE8.
On each occasion I get the following messages;
Ie4uinit.exe – Ordinal not found
The ordinal 654 could not be located in dynamic link library iertutil.dll
Rundll32.exe – Ordinal not found
The ordinal 672 could not be located in dynamic link library iertutil.dll
Rundll
Error loading c:\windows\system32\iedkcs32.dll
The operating system cannot run %1
...and IE8 will not open.
On each of my attempts I have reverted to IE7 which works just fine.
Should I be doing something before I install IE8, or should I just accept using IE7?
I am operating Windows XP Home Edition.

Re: Internet ERxplorer 8 Error Messages
You can try disabling your security programs first before installing IE8, make sure nothing is running while installing IE8, if still doesn't work then use IE7 for the mean time. Give it like a couple of months and try installing IE8 again.

Re: Internet ERxplorer 8 Error Messages
I am having this problem also. It occured immediately after installing IE8 and a Java update.
After a restart, got the error: error loading c:\windows\system32\iedkcs32.dll the system cannot run %1.
Any ideas?

Re: Internet ERxplorer 8 Error Messages
Hey,
I am also experiencing the "Ie4uinit.exe – Ordinal not found" and ""The ordinal 654 could not be located in dynamic link library iertutil.dll" problem after I updated my IE 7 to IE 8.
I reinstalled IE 8 with my security programs disabled. The problem was not solved.
Then I unistalled IE 8 (went back to IE 7) and the problem was still not solved.
Because of this I cannot use my keyboard in any websites to type in passwords etc. Quite annoying! If anyone maybe has any ideas about how I can fix this it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Internet ERxplorer 8 Error Messages
I'm still waiting for a solution!
No one seems to know how to resolve the problem, and I can't find any pointers on MS support sites.
Suppose we'll just have to soldier on with what works and fingers crossed.

Re: Internet ERxplorer 8 Error Messages
I have the same problem "ie4unit.exe The ordinal 654 could not be located in the dynamic link library iertutil.dll" after a update IE7 to IE8 via Windows Update.
I do not dare to boot the server since it's a DC who is running DNS, DHCP and AD.
When I click on services ikon I get a Window (Windows Internet Explorer)
An error has occured in this dialog.
Error: 54
Unspecified error
Do any of you have a solution.?
Can IE8 be uninstalled without a boot?

Re: Internet ERxplorer 8 Error Messages
Has anyone figured out how to resolve this problem? My error message is identical to the one in the initial post. IE8 does not open - IE7 opens instead. When I tried to uninstall IE8, I was shown a whole list of programs that would not work if I proceeded with the uninstall. IE7 doesn't appear on Add/Remove programs at all.
Microsoft article ID 307852 says that Last Known Good Configuration does not solve problems with missing or corrupted drivers, so I'm thinking this is not a solution.
Am thinking of doing a System Restore. Has anyone tried this, and did it work?

Re: [SOLVED] Internet ERxplorer 8 Error Messages
This has just started happening recently after upgrading to SP3 and running microsoft update. Never used to. My solution might not be elequent, but what works for me is uninstalling IE8 with add/remove programs, then installing IE7, and then IE8 again. Works every time.

Yes,
Had the exact same issue. First I downloaded IE7 and IE8. then I uninstalled IE8, restarted system, then Installed IE7 , restarted again, then installed IE8 . and updated. then restarted again. then all is well. no more issues.
thanks for the help all.
cheers
