Prevent Deletion of Internet Explorer IE Browser History

Hey everyone,

I wanted to know if anyone can tell me how I can prevent users from deleting the browsing history or accessing it all together. Even if it required password access to deleting history, that would be fine as long as only I can have access to deletion.

Reason is because I have users who are denying they visit porn sites yet mysteriously I have porn pop ups on my pc even after I had them removed several times.

I think they are deleting History so I can't see if they visit or not.

Thanks in advance,

Falzzy

If you have XP Pro (not home), as an administrator you can go into the user's folders using explorer and change the security permissions for the History folder (right click on the folder/properties.../Security tab - advanced settings to set specific rights) to allow the users to create, read and modify, but not delete files in the folder. That should prevent the user from deleting the history but not prevent the creation/modification of history links by IE...

There is also a "Turn off "Delete Browsing History" functionality" setting in the group policy for XP (run gpedit.msc under User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Internet Explorer) that can be set to disable this functionality.
