Recently iexplore.exe can be running up to 980,000k of virtual memory causing my system to come to a near stand still. What's more concerning is that a few times when I've come off line, iexplore.exe looks like it's still running.

I'm a computer novice so I don't have a clue what's going wrong and would appreciate some advice.

I'm running avast and regularly do a malwarebytes scan. Nothing showing up on either.

Hello and welcome to the forum

First of all what version of Windows XP do you have? and what is The service pack?

Also what version of Internet Explore are you running?

The first thing we are going to try is to get rid of any temp files on the computer.

Click Here to download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. Save it to your Desktop.

Go to your desktop and double click on ATF-Cleaner.exe.

Main

Under Main. Click Select All, then click Empty.

Once that is done just close ATF cleaner.

---------

If that doesn't work lets try a rest of IE:

Done ... It removed 166.441mbs. *g*

Did you also do the reset?

Is it working better?

No. Still using far too much VM. Haven't done the reset yet. Making me a bit jittery tbh. I'm worried that I'll lose settings that I won't know how to fix.

Open up Toolbar cop again, find the following entries:

BHO: (Empty) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (empty) - Enabled - All Users

Right click on each of the above and click Delete, then click Yes when prompted

Do you use the real player extension in IE?

Also go Here and update IE to IE8
