Hi everyone. I recently received a new laptop from my company. It is a Lenovo X61 running XP with IE 7.0 installed.

here's the problem. Say I am on a newspaper web site. I keep the main browser page open and right click to open a new tab to read a story. This is easier than opening up a story and having to go back to the main page after I read it. After the 7th or 8th time, IE just closes and anything I had in the tabs is gone.

It will also shut down unexpectedly after browsing thru 6 or 7 different web sites.

I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it but it does not fix the problem.

thanks in advance for help.

Hello and welcome to TSF

Do you have these problems in any other browsers? Please try one of the below (both are free):

Firefox

Opera

No, My IT guy put Mozilla on my machine and that runs fine. As you probably know though, it is not quite as crisp and clear, so my preference would be to figure out why IE is doing this and fixing it.

Nope, spoke too soon. here is some new info. I did what you said, which also diabled all add ons. It worked so well all day that I went back in and enabled a few of then - Java, Shockwave, an Epson print to utilty, a Microsoft active x control, and one Adobe one. This morning the same problems started again.

Two things happen. First, the tabs dissappear at the top. I only see one "full length" gray bar across what should be the tabs.

Second, at some point, IE will just close. No pattern, could be hitting enter, opening up a new tab, anything.

I disabled all the add ons again and may try enabling them one at a time to see if I can find the culprit.

Any other thoughts?

I've done that 3 times, but not since running the reset. I will try and advise.

took about 30 seconds and it crashed again. Couldn't it likely be caused by a problem in one of those files that gets copied over during the uninstall?

Registry Fix

Click Start => Run => type in Notepad, press Ok.

Please copy everything from the quote below into Notepad

Quote:
REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\{4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C}]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\{EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88}]
Save this as fix.reg, Choose to 'Save type as' as All Files. Save it to your desktop.
It should look like this:
Double click on fix.reg & allow it to merge into the registry.

Once that is done, please post a new toolbar cop log.

Open up Toolbarcop

under CLSID, click on {4982D40A-C53B-4615-B15B-B5B5E98D167C} and click the red X, do that same for:
